Though quietly tucked along the shores of the Potomac, Ford’s Landing is just a short walk from the intersection of King and Union streets—considered to be the heart of Old Town. This proximity makes Ford’s Landing a highly walkable community and places all the fun and excitement of Alexandria just a stroll away.

So leave your car at home and walk to meet friends for coffee or a drink, to grab dinner, or shop local at the Farmers Market. You can even hop on a water taxi over to DC for a Nationals game. And come holidays, you’ll have a front-row seat to the Scottish Christmas Parade and the Parade of Boats.

So many ways to get outside

City living doesn’t have to mean sacrificing outdoors time—not in Ford’s Landing, anyway. Just steps away from home, Windmill Hill Park is the perfect place for getting some exercise, catching a breath of fresh air, or simply enjoying the view of boats along the river. It features a beautifully renovated dog park, a playground, a waterfront trail connecting it to Shipyard Park and local shops and restaurants.

To the south of Ford’s Landing, the expansive Jones Point Park was once one of the nation’s largest centers for shipping and transportation, but today, it’s a scenic nod to Alexandria’s colorful history. Its 1855 lighthouse still stands, and the now-park also features ample recreational features, including playgrounds, sports courts, fishing piers, and river access.

A short trip to DC

Life in Old Town's got a lot to offer... but DC is just across the river, too! Hop on the water taxi or grab a bus to the Metro for a car-free trip into the capital city. Or, if private transportation is more your speed, the drive is pretty direct, too—just head up N Washington Street to 395 to reach the city in about only 20 minutes.
